About us
Turabi, which means 'my soil' or 'my earth' in Arabic, is a ceramic studio and shop in Amsterdam West, founded by Jerusalem born artist and filmmaker, Inas Halabi. One of the main inspirations behind Turabi is Palestinian embroidery, known as Tatreez, where various patterns are hand-carved into the clay, creating pieces that are both decorative and functional. These designs carry the symbols and stories of Palestine, preserving our rich heritage. Turabi also features ceramic designs inspired by the natural tones of Mother Earth and lace-adorned motifs inspired by the blue hues of the Mediterranean Sea.
Through Turabi, Inas designs and hand-builds all her pieces using a variety of earthy stoneware. Her ceramic works are functional, strong and versatile designs that are 100% food safe and lead free. In order to minimise her impact on the environment, Inas reuses materials whenever she can and recycles all her unfired clay to create new pieces.
At Turabi, every ceramic piece is a labor of love, crafted using traditional pottery techniques. From bowls to plates, mugs, and serving platters, all our ceramic designs come in a variety of colors and sizes.
Turabi also offers monthly ceramic workshops that are suitable for all levels, from painting mugs to handbuilding plant pots and plates. These workshops offer a place to relax, find inspiration, learn new skills and unleash your creativity.
